UNPACKING THE NAMES OF DESIGNERS, MAKERS AND CRAFSTPEOPLE BEHIND SOME OF THE BEST JEWELS YOU CAN FIND

LENFANT, Georges

The LENFANT family were Parisian jewellers famed for sophisticated work with gold as for their intricate chains.
Georges Lenfant, a renowned goldsmith, along with his son Jacques, operated a workshop that became integral to 20TH-CENTURY FRENCH jewellery.
Their specialty? Very distinctive GOLD CHAINS, complex articulated jewellery, and TECHNICAL PRECISION matched with gorgeous artisanship.

The LENFANT workshop crafted pieces for Boucheron, Cartier, HERMÈS, and Van Cleef & Arpels, with their heyday of influence between the 1930s and 1980s.
Their expertise in creating flexible, coiled gold structures made them ideal collaborators for BVLGARI's Tubogas jewellery, which requires precise engineering without soldering.

While it was the big brands that popularised gold chains, mesh and Tubogas style, LENFANT's craftsmanship was instrumental in bringing these designs to life.
Although the original workshop is no longer active today, their legacy lives on—especially with collectors who know to turn a bracelet clasp and check for the LENFANT stamp.

There's a furore, a sense of rediscovery of all jewels created by LENFANT during the 20th century ⎯ it's so on trend, you can barely get your hands on the stuff.
We are THRILLED to bring to you a curated selection of outstanding Lenfant and Lenfant for VAN CLEEF & ARPELS designs.
